Bear with me. This is not my usual inspirational post. I felt the need to share a bit of good news…

I am still spinning from last week’s Blast Off book launch and touched so deeply by your incredible outpouring of support. As we watched the stats climb on January 19th to #1 on the best seller list in several categories on Amazon US and Canada (including entrepreneurial and hot new releases- entrepreneurial), and hit the best seller list in Motivational and Success books on Amazon US, Canada and UK. I was jumping up and down and screaming like a kid on her 5th birthday!  The experience has been completely surreal. Literally, a dream come true.

Are you living your life to the fullest at this moment in time?

So many of my coaching clients tell me they don’t reach their goals because they want everything perfect before they move forward. They are striving for perfection and it is killing them. What is the point of “perfect” any way? They want a perfectly clean house, to say the perfect words and to do perfect work at all times. Pressure filled expectations are a sure way to turn any goal into a ball and chain. Many people resist attempting new challenges or setting new goals because they are afraid they will not perform up to their ridiculous expectations. The result,
they give up before they ever begin. Then the feelings of disappointment and failure set in.

I started taking modern dance in my 30’s. The room was full of young women and men that had been dancing since childhood. My mind was aghast as the dance instructor got in front of the class and proceeded to dance several eloquent steps that we were supposed to immediately mirror. I knew I was in trouble as the class was spinning one way and I was tripping the other way (Picture I Love Lucy and the Rockettes). Through this experience, I learned to laugh at myself and let go of the notion of doing it perfectly. It was not a possible to could keep up with these experts; and attempting to was just way too much pressure. Once the light bulb came on that I could do something for the fun of it, I relaxed about the outcome. And wouldn’t you know it, I was able to perform in several dance presentations and I had a blast.

If you are not putting yourself out there, reaching toward what you really want because you are afraid of not being perfect, you are missing out on the juiciness of your life. It is the non-perfect part that will be most memorable and uniquely you.

In most of my business ventures, including writing this book, I have come up against opposition. Opposition in the form of, ” You are not going to really do that are you? Who do you think you are to start that business? It is going to be really hard to stay in business in this economy. Are you sure you want to do that? You don’t have time to write a book. There are already so many self-help books out there. Aren’t you concerned about that?

Honestly, those comments do not phase me one bit. I am used to it. When I first left my advertising/public relations firm 15 years ago that I built from the ground up to become a homeopathic physician, I received fireworks from all fronts. Why? Because, when you make changes, take risks, or veer off the common path, you will ignite the fear in others. Your risk scares them. And instead being more sincere and saying,”Wow, I could not do that”, they will tell you why YOU cannot do that.

One of my favorite passions is coaching others to become entrepreneurs. The process is exhilarating to see someone move from feeling directionless and flat, to purposeful, having fun, feeling fulfilled and stimulated with life. They are finally living their dream. I expect that during this process, at least one family member, friend or work colleague will tell them all the reasons that they should not start a business. This is where so many people get stuck and quit. They allow their friends and family dictate their life choices. They allow this outside judgment to seep into their own self doubt, and then they begin to give up on themselves.

I coach my clients so they are ready to handle the line of fire. My words of advice, ” If you have a dream, put your head down and keep walking toward it every single day. Do not allow anyone to tell you it cannot be done. Only open up to those that you know will be supportive.” This requires a lot of saying “NO” to others,  and saying “YES” to yourself, your visions, goals and desires. Then mix in a lot of courage, stubborness, and faith and you are on your way.

Go ahead. I know you can do it!

For the past 15 years I have been in the field of helping people progress to a better life. As a homeopathic physician,  I have seen clients move from despair to embracing life, from pain to living with peace and ease. I have been blessed to be a healing force for many families and have delighted in watching their children grow into amazing young men and women. So I set a more realistic goal for myself and wrote for an entire year. Did you know that if you write only one page per day, you can finish an entire book in one year. If you think about the gargantuan process of writing an entire novel or non-fiction book, it can seem overwhelming. But when you break it down in small increments like I did, it is very doable.

I spent time in my practice during the day, and wrote a bit each evening and weekend. Starting the first page was the hardest part, but once I was able to get into the mental zone of writing, the hardest part was stopping the creative flow to go to eat or sleep! It was a very intense time for me. As I was writing for hours, it felt like my hands had taken a life of their own. It was as if information was flowing out of me that I had know idea existed. The entire process was completely cathartic and enlivening.

If you have experienced anything like this than you may relate. You begin to have a love affair with your creative process. Whether your are building a house, painting a portrait, or writing a book, you are part of the birthing process and creating new life.  Your goal is to complete your vision. However, the most meaningful part is the development of your vision. Once it is complete, you feel an amazing sense of satisfaction. But then you have to close the book and say goodbye.

Thanks for joining me for my countdown. Only 120 days left as I share my personal journey to making my biggest dream come true. Somehow when I was younger, 120 days would seem like an eternity. Now it seems like just a few blinks and January 19th will be here.

The whole concept of time boggles my mind. There never seems to be enough of it and yet, when I am working out with my trainer, Marcus, every seconds feels like a decade! (He was extra brutal today.)

How I came to writing my book had many twists and turns. All roads have led to a wonderful place, but in a few of instances, the path was windier and bumpier than I had anticipated. I am sure you have had that experience. You are gritting your teeth with disappointment one moment and then months later you look back and think, “Oh, yeah. Now I get it. Thank God that didn’t work out. This is so much better!” This is the life stuff you just can’t make up and you cannot plan. There always seems to be a better, bigger plan, but you just can’t see it at the time.

Four years ago, I was approached from a major publisher to write a book about how to build a business from a spiritual perspective. After a year of proposals, various chapters, rewrite after rewrite, the book they finally approved was NOT me at all. It was not my voice, my message, and I just could not bring myself to put my name on it. Since my dream had always been to publish a book, the idea of pulling out of the deal nauseated and saddened me greatly. I felt like I was throwing away an amazing opportunity, but I just could not put my name on a book that I did not respect. My passion for this manuscript  was not there and I could not manufacture the feeling. (I tried, believe me. Kind of like the relationship that looks good on paper, but ya’ just don’t feel it!)  So I compiled all of my stacks of writing into a box and regretfully closed the door….

You see… this is not just about a book launch. Seeing my book in print, inspiring others with my words, stories and strategies, and picking up my very own book off of a book store shelf is literally a dream come true for me. I am so excited to share my process, thoughts, frustrations and elations with you in my Blast Off Countdown Blog. This is the what, when, how I did and do it, how I fit it into the rest of my life as a mom, a wife, and a business woman and still manage to have lots of fun.

So it started something like this….

I have had a passion for writing since I was in the 4th grade when I wrote my first poem in Ms. Grant’s class at Grissom Elementary in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

There once was an alligator named Sam.

He lived in a clogged up damn.

He ate peoples noses, and bit off their toses.

And that was my alligator Sam.

Brilliant, I know. I was quite proud of this poem and thought, “there is something to this writing thing.” Words became a playground of expression for me. I discovered that I possessed a rather deep soul (Deeper than I could deal with at age 9, or anyone around me for that matter)  and  I needed an outlet to release and sort out all this romanticism and intensity. Writing was a way for me to configure my deepest thoughts, spout about my observations, experiences, solutions,  then tie them all together with a poetic and rythmic bow. It has been a special relationship… me and my pen. (and eventually my Mac)  I always found it easier to say what I really wanted to say… in writing.

Writing Blast Off has been a culmination of years writing, working with thousands of clients to move them to a better chapter in their lives, and a strong desire to help others reach their potential. In fact, it became a real pet peeve of mine when someone would come to see me for coaching or homeopathy and they would proceed to give me every excuse as to why their dreams, or life, for that matter, would never work out the way they wanted. I cannot tell you how many times I wanted to shake them and say, “You are amazing. Don’t you see?!”

Over the years, through many trials and tribulations,  I finally learned how to make my dreams come true. (This book is my biggest) And believe me, they were not handed to me. At age 30 I set out on the world as a single mom, no money and no emotional support. However, I did have three things going for me: Determination, stubborness, and hope. Always hope.

So please join me over the next 3 1/2 months as I share the process of making one of my biggest dreams come true as I countdown the release of Blast Off on January 19th. My intention is to make you laugh, cry and get off your butt and make it happen. Lets do it together.
