Writers often face a lot of negativity or ridicule from friends or family. It can take years to learn how to write a novel to publishable standard, and then even longer for it to hit the desk of the right editor or agent at the exact time they're looking for that kind of novel. Fledgeling writers have to keep their vision for a long time before they finally realise their dream - and part of the struggle is against the naysayers who don't realise just how hard it is!
